Cyndi and I are out for the first New Years Eve since PJ was born. Of course we are the youngest couple in our group and surrounded by Port Townsend hippies, but I’ll take it.

The state of older automotive information online is awful! and Google is completely useless. It is obvious from looking around that there is a huge need to consolidate discussion, repair and restoration information into a Wikipedia or MySpace-like resource that Google can index.
Every man, woman and child in America is in... →
National debt is increasing by $1.4 billion a day, or $1 million per minute. It means almost $30,000 in debt for each man, woman, child and infant in the United States (The average household only earns $45,000 per year). And it is growing every day. It gets really scary when you see that Social Security holds $4 trillion of that debt. What is going to happen when the Baby Boomers start cashing in?

After spending most the morning getting flingLog finished, we are about to head out to Port Townsend for New Years a little later than expected.

My favorite games of 2007
At the beginning of this year I had planned to buy a Wii for the same two reasons I bought a GameCube several years prior: Metroid & Resident Evil, my favorite game franchises. But by the end of 2007 I bought a Xbox 360 instead, why? BioShock, Guitar Hero & Resident Evil 5, which will be exclusive to Xbox this time around.
Since I didn’t get an Xbox until later in the year, I...
I’ve been rewatching the Battlestar Galactica mini-series today. I don’t know why, I guess because nothing else was on. While I think the series is one of the best shows on television, I forgot just how great the mini-series was. From the post-9/11 end-of-the-world themes to the cinema verité style of photography, the mini-series did a great job of not only re-imagining the original...

Here is a really nice infographic to see how our government spends your hard earned money. You can quickly see that we spend nearly twice as much money on Iraq than Homeland Security.

US spending more on the military than the rest of... →
This is a staggering number. $623 billion dollars is close to ten times the military budget of our nearest superpower China. No wonder the dollar is so low, we are in debt up to our eyeballs.
Apple patenting mobile payment system →
Looks like the local-based Starbucks iTunes store is just the tip of the iceberg for Apple in the mobile payment arena.

The iPhone tops the list, not a surprise. But followed closely is the Mobile Web, which is good to see.
Jazz Great Oscar Peterson Dies →
One of my favorite jazz musicians died earlier this week. Not nearly as known to newcomers to jazz as Coltrane or Davis, I think Peterson is a catalog must.
Read/Write Web's 2008 Web Predictions →
Overall I think the list is overly optimistic, but a good read nonetheless. I think the feeding frenzy of acquisitions is over. The big companies need to see that something is there before acquiring.

Wrapping up Christmas
I thought Christmas this year went off really well.
On the gift giving front, PJ was ecstatic about all the toys and games. Cyndi was happy with all her gifts (she is a hard one to shop for). And got everything I was hoping for.
Cyndi and I went a little nuts on each other, but we had fun. We rarely get a chance to shop for ourselves during the year, so the Holidays seems to be the time when...

Thinking about Bigfoot
Watching a show about Bigfoot on the History Channel tonight, I’m wondering why the scientific community has such a hard time looking at evidence of the “paranormal.”
I’m not trying to be a conspiracy theorist here, but after watching the documentary, I learned, the following:
I guess there have been over 800 sighting in the Pacific Northwest, mostly around the same...

Reviewing Mass Effect
I’m not a big fan of RPG games, but I love good sci-fi. So it probably doesn’t come as a big surprise that I didn’t really care for Mass Effect.
I played the game for awhile, but didn’t finish it, so it likely that the game got a lot better, but I really didn’t care to find out.
What I disliked most was the gameplay. The combination of squad-based first person...

After another successful workshop with Garrett, I’m headed back to Seattle. A big snow storm headed in to the Boston area so I got myself on an earlier flight rather than be stuck at Logan International till next Tuesday. Its a shame as I didn’t really get a chance to explore Boston like I had hoped, but I least was able to grab dinner with some of the locals. Oh well. There is always...
Off to Boston until Thursday. Not looking forward to the cold, but I am looking forward to visiting Boston for the first time. I’ve heard good things and always wanted to go there. Check Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/fling) for updates.

Airport Extreme (802.11n) Connection Problems...... →
My Airport has been flaking out ever since I installed Leopard (Not that it was all that stable in the first place). It looks like turning off IPv6 fixes the problem. I thought I had it off in the first place, but apparently not.

3G Baby!
I travel a lot. A lot more than I ever thought I would. On this last trip to Vegas, I finally got sick and tired of paying for bad Internet connections in hotels and airports.
After seeing one in action on my last trip to New York, I decided to picked up the AT&T USBConnect 881. The little USB device plugs into any laptop and connects to AT&T’s UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA network.
Install...

Future of Mobile Photos →
Chip was asking how Future of Mobile went, an event that I helped organize, spoke at and emceed in London last month. He reminded me that I should probably say something about it. The event went really… really well! We had a sold out audience of over 400 people, mostly developers. The speakers did an awesome job and the day went a lot smoother than I expected. Of course all the folks...

I have to say that so far I love Tumblr. It is just the tool I always wanted. I just wish that it posted Twitter posting a little bit better. They get totally out of order with everything else.

Its good to be back in Seattle, but holy crap am I backlogged with work. I can’t believe how busy business is this close to the end of the year. Oh well.

Overweight children to have reduced life... →
This is incredibly scary! As a parent of a picky eater I feel like I may be in the clear here so far. But I am super aware about eating habits. I’m also been increasing trying to learn about the right diet. I’m concerned about the amount of shit, like High Fructose Corn Syrup (which is in everything!) that we are force feeding our kids. Between the food we have to eat and climate...

Leaving Las Vegas
Headed back to Seattle after a very successful iPhone Workshop. Garrett did a great job getting all the slides together and providing more technical insight than what I traditionally do.
Gambled a little and ended up breaking even, though the food and booze was pretty damn expensive anywhere outside the casino floor.
The Internet access was expensive and awful! In the convention center and...
