Notes from Jury Duty—100 people waiting in a room to be called is an awkward experience. We’ve only been here for two hours and you can tell that boredom has set in.
Today I have to report for a Jury Summons. I received the summons about six months ago and postponed it. They told me to pick a random date on the calendar, so I picked today, thinking mid-February would be best time of the year. Boy was I wrong.

I lost my voice yesterday. That has never really happened to me before. I can’t talk above a whisper and even then it is hard. You just try not to talk. It is really weird to not be able to communicate. It gets pretty frustrating. Had a great day snowboarding yesterday. I didn’t push myself too hard as I knew I two more days ahead of me and didn’t want to be too sore or injure myself. My rental gear pretty much sucked. The board was slow and little short for my taste. And I woke up with a major welt on the back of my leg from the boots. I’m really looking forward to breaking in my gear today.
Vancouver was great, but now it is time to head to Whistler. I’m up early to rustle up the family and drag them up to the Village so I can try to get in a few runs on some fresh snow. Nick is bringing up my new board, so today I will have to rent, but I’m looking forward to breaking in my new baby tomorrow.
Microsoft Bids $44.6 Billion for Yahoo →
Frankly, this is a good deal for Microsoft and a good deal for Yahoo. I hope Yahoo’s shareholders accept the offer. The “Yahoo strategy” did an excellent job of motivating the Web 2.0 Movement, but struggled against the larger Google. If Microsoft can provide the cash and Yahoo the innovation, I think this would be good for everyone, including us.
