Warp Speed Engine Designed →
I love it when Star Trek fantasy inspires reality. It is so interesting to see headlines that remind us, “That’s right, we do live in the future.” Two Baylor University physicists have outlined how a faster-than-light engine (FTL), or warp drive, could be created that would bend but not break the laws of physics. I’m sure its application is still eons away. The...

Seattle approves 20¢ shopping bag fee →
Seattle City Council on Monday approved a 20-cent charge for consumers who want to bring home a disposable paper or plastic shopping bag from convenience, drug and grocery stores. Not only are those little plastic bags useless—barely fitting two boxes of cereal without ripping—but they are not recyclable, clogging up the recycling machines. They are an awful invention that never improved on the...

NY Times Debate on Literacy →
As teenagers’ scores on standardized reading tests have declined or stagnated, some argue that the hours spent prowling the Internet are the enemy of reading — diminishing literacy, wrecking attention spans and destroying a precious common culture that exists only through the reading of books. Well crap! I had a terrible attention span before the Internet. What’s my excuse?

The Prisoner Miniseries Blog →
AMC, the network responsible for Mad Men, is creating a miniseries based on my favorite TV show of all time, The Prisoner. This is exciting news for a long time fan of the show. I always believed that it was ideal content to be remade for a modern audience. But I have to say I’m a little sad by the news as I always had an ambition to create a feature-length film version of the series....

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for iPhone It’s a long demo and you can start seeing how the touch interface works about two minutes in. It looks like it might get a bit tiring to hold and play and I would have liked to see use of the accelerometer to for certain actions. The gameplay looks like it might be based on the DS port with better graphics, and they just added stylus controls to...

iPhone Dev Camp →
iPhone Dev Camp 2 is coming August 2-3 at the Adobe office in San Francisco. Last year a lot of really cool projects came out of the weekend hack-a-thon. This year should be no different with people working on exciting new web apps and native apps. As a special bonus this year Seattle mobile geeks will join the party at iPhone Dev Camp Seattle at the Adobe Seattle office the same weekend,...

Zoe Keating →
Had the chance to see Zoe Keating perform last night at Foo Camp… and I have to say I was amazed! She uses sampling technology to layer live tracks using only her cello to produce incredibly deep and powerful sounds. Definitely check out her site, get a taste for her sound and buy her album from iTunes.

Article: What's Next? →
As I’ve been preparing for Foo Camp I’ve been struggling to define what’s next for me? what excites me? and to a larger degree what is the future of the web? The more I thought about it the more I got depressed, going from a hiccup in my “master plan” to a full blown professional, er… “crossroads.” I’ve been struggling with writing this...
