Mobile Resource Site Update

To those who are curious about the Mobile Resource Site (I referred to here). I posted to the Mobile Web List yesterday, and I figured I should put it out to the larger group as well.

I have it built out and have it ready in the wings. The challenge now is the writing, researching and compiling of articles and resources. I have a lot of content already, I just need help getting it into the site.

I’ve broken the site down into four major areas:

  • Learning about Mobile—in this section the goal is provide curated articles like Smashing Magazine & A List Apart, but from mobile experts. I have eight outlined so far, broken down into Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced

  • Discuss Mobile Topics—this area is a listing of 25 or so topics relevant to mobile. Each page provides an overview of the topic, kinda in the Wikipedia style as well as links to additional sites, books and resources. Like Stephanie and James mentioned in Brad’s thread, the goal here will be to that spot where each topic can be assessed and understood by all. In order to do that it will need to have some level of curation.

  • Create Mobile Apps—this is really just another topic, but it seems warranted as its own area given the level of current interest, misinformation and speculation around apps and the future of the web. This area provides a breakdown of each device platform, in order of penetration (mobile web being first of course), followed by other development resources like device matrixes, databases, testing resources and a curated designer/developer directory.

  • Participate in Mobile Projects—this area provides a page to each of the efforts I mention in my manifesto, aimed at recruiting people to each effort and to communicate status.

I’ve been working to recruit an advisory board, editorial staff and sponsors, but it has been slow going. In the meantime I’m willing to put my money with my mouth is to get this whole thing started.

If you are interested in helping I need the following:

  1. Site Contributors—basically help with research and compiling content. (10hrs/week)
  2. Topic Editors—basically owning a topic(s) and making sure it is up to date and meeting editorial standards. (5hrs/week)
  3. Topic Contributors—assist the editor in keep the topic fresh (10hrs/month)
  4. Topic Experts—review topics to ensure accuracy (5hrs/month)
  5. Contributing Writers—write tutorial and long form articles (10-20hrs/quarter)
  6. Copy Editors—review content for editorial and grammatical consistency (10hrs/week)
  7. Advisory Group—help provide guidance on this effort and help resolve issues as they arise (20hrs/month)

So if there are any volunteers that would be interested in helping me in any of these roles please contact me and we can get started.

-Brian
