One of my favorite features of the Kindle so far is book samples. You can browse titles on the Kindle or on Amazon.com and if you see something you like you can send a sample of the first couple chapters to your Kindle for free wirelessly. In a minute or two it just shows up in your book list.
After you’ve read the first chapter it ends with a “like this book? buy it instantly, by clicking here” deal. It is pretty damn cool.
I was never a guy to hang out in bookstores reading. I would pick a book up, read a bit of the jacket and make my decision based on that. With the Kindle I can explore books more leisurely. If I’m engaged by the sample then I can continue. For example last night I read the first chapter of The Road and hated it, but also read No Country for Old Men, loved it and adding to my wishlist, all right from the device.
So what am I doing now? Loading up my Kindle with a bunch of sample chapters through Amazon.com. That way I can keep my book wish list on my Kindle in the form of the first couple chapters. When I’m ready to read it, I just starting reading the book and if I like it, buy it.
What is surprising me the most, is I had no idea how many books I want to read now.
Oh, and the other thing that I like about the Kindle: books are cheap!
