For some reason I’m really into soundtracks at the moment. I don’t know if it is the memory of a good movie, the allure of the modern day mix tape or just damn good music.
Lately I’ve been into the Juno soundtrack and the distinctive style of Kimya Dawson, which was as integral to the mood and spirit of the film as Ellen Page’s performance. Also featured on Juno is A Well Respected Man which made me jones for more Kinks, which led me to listen to the Rushmore soundtrack, one of the best soundtracks ever! (which always makes me want to revisit my entire catalog of British Invasion artists).
I’ve also really been into Jonny Greenwood’s amazing soundtrack for There Will Be Blood. Very reminiscent of the late great Aaron Copland. And a recent viewing of 2001: A Space Odyssey has also re-introduced a few classical favorites into my playlist as well.
Whether a “needle drop” or composed, I forgot how much a great soundtrack can define so much of the mood of a film.
