Who cares how many Kindles are sold?
I guess if you are an investor in Amazon then maybe you should care, but I don’t and I don’t really see why anyone should really give a damn.
The way I see it the only questions the average consumer would be asking themselves is:
- Would I use an e-book reader?
- Is $400 the right price for me?
- Can I get one now or later?
I think the real problem with the Kindle isn’t the technology but that Amazon is trying to sell something that most people have never seen before, E-Ink.
I take mine everywhere and people always want to see it, they want to know if E-Ink works as advertised. Few people are likely to pay $400 for the privilege. So until Amazon figures out a way to get their target consumers to hold one and see it in the light of day, they are going to have an uphill battle on their hands.
Until then, I’ll continue to go on record saying that the Kindle is a pretty great little device. I have absolutely no buyers remorse. While it isn’t for everyone, it does work as advertised.
